Meet Pat and Ann Laforet, who have decided to leave their Canadian jobs, their ten kids and six grandchildren to go to Africa. They will work with a Canadian based charitable organization that runs a very successful medical mission in Malawi, Africa. Their commitment and dedication to this work is moving and insprational.
"We have witnessed the need in Africa first hand, and after looking in our hearts, we feel called to go to work and teach. These people need a "hand up" NOT a "hand out". We offer unique skills and are certain it is the right thing to do and feel fortunate to be able to go."
Malawi is a country of 12,000,000 people, of which over 1,000,000 are orphans. They are helped by only 94 doctors, one of which is Lifeline Malawi's Dr. Chris Brooks from Calgary, Alberta.
Many messages highlight the plight of the people but forget their spirit and their willingness to work and to face hardships while death is all around them. These people of Malawi teach us in North America some great lessons about courage and gratitude.
Lifeline Malawi has been working for eight years to establish local credibility and to earn the trust of the people, and we have made great progress. We are a "Glimpse of Hope" to these people, and that will skyrocket as we continue to deliver the anti-retroviral drugs to treat HIV/AIDS from our rural clinics in Malawi.
With your help, moral and financial support, we can deliver these services to the most needy villages in very rural locations in Malawi, one of the poorest countries in the world.
This project is turning into a model for others, not only in Malawi but other African countries. Over 94% of all donations goes directly to the needy in Africa. Most of our organization works on a voluntary basis, so your donation goes where you intend it to go and delivers maximum benefit.
To keep people abreast of what they have been doing, Pat and Ann have set up a blog at http://lifelinemalawi.blogspot.com.
